Second Line - Projection

Keynote: The natural

Where the theme of the 1st line is receptivity and takes things in, the theme of the 2nd line is creativity so it takes nothing in. The 2nd line is the ‘Natural’ – it is just doing its thing. The 2nd line is quite happy in its own company and really doesn’t want to be interrupted by the other. The 2nd line is a projection line – but more like a movie projector than the Projector “Type”.

2nd lines project themselves as a creative force so when other people see them they think they are seeing this creative force. They don’t actually see the person. The 2nd line is shy and its internal dynamic is along the lines of “Leave me alone, I’m just doing - but I don’t know how”. It is this quality that makes them reluctant to be called out by the other, because they have no idea whether or not they may appear either amazing or ludicrous. This is the line of the Hermit.

When we take this into Gate 62 we find people who can be caught in something of a trap. They project outwards that they have all the details and can share them. Well, they might have details or they might not. They might be able to express them or they might not. They might be doing the details or they might not. In any event they are always projecting outwards that they are in command of the details – meaning this is what people see no matter what the 2nd line is actually doing. The line’s reluctance to be called out by the other is a product of this. When questioned directly about the details they may have to confess they don’t have them. No wonder they are shy. If they share a detail, the other might well ask “Oh, that’s interesting, how did you find that detail” The 2nd line is apt to reply "I didn’t really want to share that detail. In fact I wasn't even aware I shared it. I don’t know how I got it so just leave me alone.”
